Carpenters Meaning

Carpenter is the person who possesses the art of designing, cutting, constructing, installing and finishing of various materials which serve as furnishing. These services are used in the construction of houses, buildings, shops, offices and other places.

In general terms, Carpenter is an individual who works with many different types of tools. Carpenters are also deployed for the construction of ships and boats and other similar vehicles. Earlier, carpentry was only limited to wood and was used to make frames, cabinets, small furniture and the basic architecture of the house. But nowadays, the scope of carpentry has broadened to other materials as well, such as copper, aluminium, and other metals.

Carpentry which is the work performed by carpenters is mainly divided into various categories based on its field of application. The two major categories include:-

1. Rough - Rough Carpentry is commonly found in the construction of basic structures of building or houses where finishing and polishing are not the top priority as eventually, it is going to be layered with other materials such as walls, paints, and concrete but precision is mandatory. The structure of any building consists of many components, including beams, pillars, rafters, etc which are also important in the construction of frames and roofs.
2. Finish - Finish carpentry comprises of construction of those objects or things which are supposed to be visible to the individual. Things which are not going to be layered by any other material for instance: cabinet, drawers, dressers, dining tables, beds, gates and other furniture. Perfection and finishing are a higher priority in this type of carpentry.

Carpentry Tools

Some of the major carpentry tools which are commonly used by carpenters include:-

1. Marking tools: The basic tools used for making measurement and marking the materials come under marking tools. As the job of a carpenter requires measurements of things, some of the tools used commonly by carpenters include pencil, scale, steel tape, ruler, Vernier callipers etc.
2. Drilling/Boring tools: Exclusively used for drilling holes in the wooden surfaces contain these types of tools. The drilling machine is the most basic tool which consists of multiple drillers of different diameter and different textures. The desired metallic drill is simply attached to an electric motor gun, which rotates the drill and makes a hole in a surface or widens the already present one.

3. Striking Tools: Tools used to strike down any material inside another is known as the striking tool. Hammers are the most common striking tools which are used to pin down any object into another. Hammers are furthermore divided into other types based on their structure and material. For example claw hammer, cross peen hammers, round mallet, rectangular mallet etc.
